KA'UPULEHU
'Suspicious' brushfire burns about 10 acres

A brushfire in Ka'upulehu on the Big Island Sunday may have been intentionally set, firefighters said.

The fire burned around 10 acres, but did not damage any structures. About 29 firefighters helped put out the blaze.

The fire started around 11:23 a.m. near Makalawena Access Road, and crews stayed at the scene through the night to make sure hot spots didn't flare up.

Capt. Grant Kojima of the Hawai'i Fire Department said the cause of the fire appears "suspicious," but remains under investigation.
