Honpa Hongwanji proclamation ceremony slated for Dec. 21

The Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii will observe the 750th Shinran Shonin Memorial as well as the mission's 120th anniversary in September, kicking off with a proclamation ceremony will be made Dec. 21 with Bishop Thomas R. Okano.

Okano will deliver a special message from Koshin Ohtani, the head of the Jodo Shinshu Nishi Hongwanji sect. Afterward at the Betsuin Social Hall will be a Q&A session with activities scheduled for children.

Also scheduled: an Ohana Conference for Sept. 5 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village with Ohtani and his wife, as well as a commemoration banquet. A memorial service for Shinran Shonin will be Sept. 6 there, as well.
