Waipahu Street, Waipahu Depot Road closed

Waipahu Street is closed because of concerns that a retaining wall may collapse at the top of Waipahu Depot Road, which is also closed because of flooding.

Several businesses along Waipahu Depot Road also were flooded, including the Hair Mill salon, where water rose as high as eight inches this morning.

Owner Ely Balinbin was busy sweeping up water and mud from her shop as Christmas music played.

She's been at the location for 26 years and has seen flooding before, but "this is the worst."

Balinbin and her friend, Liz Banuilos, found some humor among the mess.

"We had little fishes living in here," Banuilos said.

Balinbin has no flood insurance but believes she will be able to recover and reopen.
