Eyewitness says Haleiwa flooding severe

Advertiser Staff

In Hale'iwa, Mike Lyons said he evacuated a building he owns because it's 2 feet under water. The structure is on Kamehameha Highway near a Tesoro gas station.

Flooding was so bad on the highway that a car floated across the road in front of his building, which houses numerous businesses including Killer Taco.

Lyons said a number of homes are flooded. Also flooded is an automobile repair shop, so oil and gasoline are flowing into a nearby stream.

On Hale'iwa Road, Long Bridge is plugged with debris and rising water making it impassable, he said.

Lyons said he's helped people evacuate but more help is needed.
