Advertiser Staff

Unattended cooking oil started a kitchen fire today that damaged an apartment unit at 1862 Kalakaua Ave. near Makaloa Street, according to Honolulu Fire Department investigators.

The 4:55 p.m. fire in unit No. 206 caused $10,000 damage to the structure and $500 damage to contents, said Capt. Earle Kealoha.

The fire was contained to the kitchen area, stove and cabinets, said Kealoha.
