Flash flood watch in effect for entire state

A flash flood watch is currently in effect for the entire state, the National Weather Service Honolulu Forecast Office said.

A moist and unstable air mass just to the west of Kauai poses a threat of heavy showers statewide and isolated thunderstorms for Kauai County today, forecasters said.

The flash flood watch will remain in effect through this afternoon.

The unstable air mass is expected to remain over the state through the weekend and into the first half of the new work week.

Here's a closer look at what's expected on Oahu for the next few days:

Today: Scattered showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. Southeast wind between 10 and 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Scattered showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Scattered showers. The rain could be heavy at times. Widespread haze. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: Showers likely. The rain could be heavy at times. Widespread haze. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday: Showers likely. The rain could be heavy at times. Widespread haze. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday Night: Scattered showers. Widespread haze. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. South wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
