High surf advisory in effect from Niihau to Oahu

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau and Kauai and the north-facing shores of Oahu through 6 p.m. today.

An above normal northwest swell has brought high surf that will last through today, the Weather Service said.

The surf is expected to reach 12 to 15 feet through today along the north-facing shores of Oahu.

Elsewhere on Oahu today, look for surf of 6 to 10 feet along west-facing shores, 2 to 4 feet along east-facing shores and 3 to 5 feet along south-facing shores.

Outlook through Wednesday, Dec. 17: The new northwest swell will slowly lower into early next week. The short period south swell will slowly lower over the weekend. No other significant swells are expected.
