Police this morning were searching the area near Nuuanu Avenue and Kukui Street after area residents reported hearing seven to 10 gunshots around 6:45 a.m. today.

Police were told that the man who fired the shots got into a white car or SUV, possibly a Cadillac Escalade, which was driven by a woman. The car fled mauka on Nuuanu Avenue, witnesses said.

Police said there apparently was no victim in the shooting.

The area where the incident occurred has long been a gathering place for prostitutes who work in the downtown Honolulu area.
