Unbeaten Penn State advances to national volleyball semis

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Undefeated Penn State overcame an early deficit and swept California 25-21, 25-21, 25-17 today in the quarterfinals of the NCAA women's volleyball championship, extending the Nittany Lions' record winning streak.

The Nittany Lions improved to 36-0, extended their record set winning streak to 109 and won their NCAA-record 62 straight match.

The Bears (26-7) charged to a 7-1 lead in the opener and held a 19-13 advantage before Penn State rallied with 12 of the last 14 points.

Setter Alisha Glass had 37 assists, while Megan Hodge had a match-high 13 kills.

Penn State advances to the national semis on Thursday in Omaha, Neb., against Nebraska. The Nittany Lions are going for their second straight national title.
