A Big Island grand jury has indicted 34-year-old Anthony Hartz of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates in connection with an attempted murder in Ka'u on Oct. 26.

The grand jury indicted Hartz on Dec. 8 on one count each of attempted murder and terroristic threatening. Police arrested Hartz on Thursday on the strength of a bench warrant issued by the Honorable Judge Elizabeth Strance. Bail was set at $50,000.

Police originally arrested Hartz Oct. 28 and charged him on Oct. 29. Hartz is accused of intentionally driving a sports-utility vehicle into 33-year-old Isaac Couchie of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates while Couchie was on a motorcycle.

Because of delays during a preliminary hearing in District Court, prosecutors took the case to the grand jury.
