A power outage forced Hawaii Baptist Academy in Nu'uanu to send children home this morning at about 9:30 a.m.

George Moyer, vice president for academics, said power was restored to the school about 11:30 a.m., but the school remained closed until tomorrow.

Hawaiian Electric spokesman Darren Pai said that about 7,600 customers lost power this morning in Nu'uanu, Downtown and Pauoa. All customers had their power restored by 3:30 p.m. today.

Some 1,070 students, in grades kindergarten through 12th grade, attend Hawaii Baptist Academy, which has two campuses in Nu'uanu.
