Audience participation welcome for 'Messiah'

The Maui Choral Arts Association will present its annual "Sing-It-Yourself Messiah" at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa.

The audience will serve as the chorus for the performance of Handel's "Messiah," which will feature a nine-piece chamber ensemble and soloists Debra Lynn, Sarah Oppenheim-Beggs and Robert E. Wills. Music scores will be available at the door.

The Maui Concert Chorus will host an open rehearsal at Iao Congregational Church from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today for those who want to get a head start with the music. A $10 donation is requested and, for an additional $5, rehearsal attendees will receive a ticket for Friday's event.

Otherwise, advance tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youths 18 and under; tickets at the door are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $10 for youths.
