Public hearing tonight on Waikiki beach replenishment

A public meeting on the restoration of Gray's Beach, fronting the Sheraton Waikiki, is set for tonight at the Waikiki Community Center, 310 Paoakalani Ave. The meeting will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The $4 million project, set to wrap up in spring 2011 if all goes well, includes the construction of three T-shaped rock groins in the water.

The project is being funded by Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts, which owns the Sheraton Waikiki.
