Brett Favre's first season with the New York Jets may be his last in the National Football League, the quarterback said.

The 39-year-old told reporters a day after being named to his 10th Pro Bowl that, regardless of when his career ends, "I got everything out of it that I wanted to."

"I'm well aware of the fact that there's two games left," he said at the team's practice facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. "I'm expecting us to make the playoffs, as I hope the rest of the team is, but it very well could be my last. It could be my last three games, last four games, I don't know."

New York acquired the three-time NFL Most Valuable Player in an August trade with the Green Bay Packers, five months after Favre announced his retirement. The deal brought closure to a month of drama involving one of the U.S.'s most popular athletes and Packers management, who said they were committed this season to starting Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.

Favre spent 16 years in Green Bay, where he set or matched 10 quarterback records and won a Super Bowl title after the 1996 season. In January, the Packers lost to the eventual-champion New York Giants 23-20 in the National Football Conference title game.

This season, he's passed for an average of 218 yards per game, throwing 21 touchdowns and a league-high 17 interceptions to help the Jets to a 9-5 record.

Tied for Top

The team, which went 4-12 last season, is tied atop the American Football Conference East Division with New England and Miami. The Jets travel to Seattle this weekend before hosting the Dolphins in the final week of the regular season.

Speculation about Favre's future spiked following the Jets' 31-27 win over Buffalo on Dec. 14.

"Maybe I don't have the arm I once had," Favre said at a postgame news conference after under-throwing wide receiver Jericho Cotchery on a deep pass for his second interception of the day.

"I was just being honest," Favre said yesterday, noting that while watching a replay this week he saw that he was bumped on the play, keeping him from completing his arm motion. "There are a lot of throws I can make that other guys can't make."
