Chabad of Hawaii schedules Dec. 21, Dec. 28 Hanukkah events

Chabad of Hawaii will host a Hawaii Unite the Lights event on Sunday that will serve as a memorial for the Mumbai victims.

At 7 p.m. in Waikiki at the Kuhio corner Kalakaua Avenue, Chabad of Hawaii will hold its annual menorah lighting ceremony and will feature prayers for Chabad Mumbai representatives Rabbi Gavriel and Rivkah Holtzberg.

The event follows a "menorah parade" at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 21 which travels down Kapiolani to Beretania to Bishop; then down to Ala Moana Boulevardto the site of the public menorah lighting with Gov. Linda Lingle lighting the Grand Menorah.

Then, at 4 p.m. Dec. 28, Chabad of Hawaii is also planning "Chanukah in Candyland," when participants will build a 10-foot-tall candy menorah and fill it with candies and jelly beans. A buffet with hot latkes follows with music and performances by the students of the Daniel Levey Chabad Hebrew School; $20 ($12 children 2-12).
