Kalanianaole Highway has reopened following a rockslide near Halona Blowhole that had closed the roadway in both directions between Sandy Beach Park and Lanai Lookout, authorities said.

The rockslide occurred about 12:38 p.m. and blocked the inside lane of the highway.

Authorities said the roadway reopened about 2:45 p.m. after crews cleaned up debris and the stability of the hillside was assessed by engineers.

No one was injured.

State Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tammi Mori in a report from the scene said the rockslide had consisted of 3-foot boulders, rocks, mud, sand and slate.

Mori said the slide was about 9 feet wide and about 7 feet tall, and covered the townbound lane. Crews arrived shortly after 2 p.m. to begin cleanup.
