Australia's Stephanie Gilmore capped her brilliant season by winning the Billabong Pro Maui women's contest and the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing championship today.

The final day of the Billabong Pro Maui was completed today in 1- to 3-foot waves at Ho'okipa Beach, Maui. The contest was moved to Ho'okipa because of a lack of waves at the original site, Honolua Bay.

Gilmore defeated Wai'anae's Melanie Bartels in the one-on-one final, 17.6-14.8.

Gilmore won two of the three contests in the Triple Crown series to win the overall championship.

She also clinched the 2008 ASP Women's World Tour championship two weeks ago. She won five of the eight contests on the 2008 tour, including the Maui event.

Gilmore received $12,000 for winning the contest, and $10,000 for winning the Triple Crown.

Bartels received $7,000 for her runner-up finish.

Megan Abubo of Waialua and Honolulu teenager Carissa Moore were eliminated in the quarterfinals.
