Wastewater discharged into Wahiawa Reservoir

Advertiser Staff

The state Health Department's Clean Water Branch has posted warning signs at Wahiawa Reservoir due to the discharge of 14,126 gallons of treated and partially disinfected wastewater from the Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Plant,

The discharge was due to a loss of power to one of two UV disinfection units at the Wahiawa plant, Health Department officials said.

The public is also reminded that a "brown water advisory" is still in effect for coastal waters of O'ahu and Kaua'i due to overflowing cesspools, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals and associated flood debris.
