UH football: Ford Island open for Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

Advertiser Staff

All alternate parking sites, including Ford Island, will be open for the Dec. 24 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, featuring the University of Hawaii against Notre Dame.

Kickoff is 3:05 p.m. at Aloha Stadium.

The sites include Radford High School, Kam Drive In and Leeward Community College.

"We are anticipating a large crowd for the game," Aloha Stadium Manager Scott Chan said. "The Sheraton Hawaii Bowl has decided to open Ford Island and all other alternate sites to help with parking and traffic."

"We know traffic will be unavoidable on Wednesday with it being a work day and the last minute shoppers," Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl Executive Director David Matlin said. "Ticket sales are still moving, so we wanted to maximize the opportunities for fans to access to all parking options in order to get to Aloha Stadium and enjoy the game."

All parking gates are scheduled to open four hours prior to kickoff (11 a.m.), except the LOWER HALAWA LOT, which will open at 10 a.m. for the public. The LOWER HALAWA LOT accommodates approximately 1,500 vehicles.

Access to the LOWER HALAWA LOT will be through parking gates 3 and 4 beginning at 10 a.m. Vehicles will NOT be allowed to move to other sections of the parking lot from the LOWER HALAWA LOT.

The UPPER HALAWA PARKING LOT will open at 11 a.m. Access to the UPPER HALAWA LOT will be through parking gates 3 and 4.

Sections 1 through 7 of the inner circle parking lot is reserved for the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl and Aloha Stadium. Access to Sections 1 through 7 on the inner circle will be via pass only and through the Main Salt Lake Gate 1 (for sections 1-7). Bus Lot passes will be accommodated at the Main Salt Lake Gate 1.

Unlike regular season UH games, public parking will be available on the inner circle in sections 9 (DE only), and 10 through 13, except for the limited amount of ADA stalls. Public parking on the inner circle (Sections 9-13) will be via the North Kam Gate 2 only.

ADA stalls will be open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parking attendants will be asking for ADA placards and ADA issued identification cards. Guests who are unable to produce the placard and the ID card to match a person inside the vehicle will not be allowed to park in the ADA areas.

"ADA parking is limited, but we will do our best to accommodate as many ADA vehicles as we can," Chan said. "When the ADA stalls fill, we will redirect guests to an alternate site which provides ADA shuttle service to parking section 1B for entrance into turnstile gate 4 for their convenience."
