The plane carrying President-elect Barack Obama and his family touched down at Honolulu International Airport at 3:06 p.m.

Today's arrival marks the start of the family's vacation. They will spend the next 10 days here with an upscale Kailua enclave as their home base.

Awaiting the family was a black Cadillac limousine along with a caravan consisting of four HPD squad cars, a special HPD Chevy SUV, an ambulance, a bus and four SUVs.

On hand were more than 20 Honolulu police motorcycle officers, along with federal agents and sharpshooters.

Nearby Lagoon Drive was closed, and state sheriffs deputies and private security were stationed at every side street.

Obama emerged from the United Airlines 767 at 3:19 p.m. He was wearing khaki pants, a black polo shirt and black jacket and a black Chicago White Sox baseball cap.

He walked from the plane with his younger daughter, Sasha, who was wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with a large peace sign.

They were followed off the plane by Obama's wife, Michelle, and their other daughter, Malia.

Obama waved to local journalists and then climbed into the limo and left.
