Some neighbors of the Obamas' Kailua vacation home said they were following the president-elect's arrival on The Advertiser Web site.

They pulled out lawn chairs and turned Kailuana Place into a block party.

As the Obama entourage came through on its way to their home for the next 10 days, some people on the Kailua side of the block got a wave from the president-elect.

Those on the Kane'ohe side of the street saw Obama's daughter Sasha waving to them.

The normally quiet neighborhood was a constant stream of activity, which included police and bomb-sniffing dogs.

Residents were hoping for a glimpse of Obama during his stay.

"We would love to meet them," said Linda Oifer.

Alan Shinn, who lives across the street from Oifer, said, "It's good. He's trying to have a vacation."

Shinn's wife, Ember, said, "But look at all the lookee-loos. I'm worried it's going to be a hassle."
