Ocean safety officials found more than 1,600 jellyfish in Waikiki this morning and lifeguards have treated more than 170 people for stings as of 2 p.m., Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said.

"Today is the peak influx day and this is considered a large influx," Cheplic said. "There were also about 100 found at Ala Moana."

The influx is expected to continue tomorrow, but should be lighter. Ocean Safety is continuing to post warning signs and urges people to check with lifeguards before heading into the water, Cheplic said.
