Isle's job-pool quality high, Target says

The great Target job hunt continues today at the Hawai'i Convention Center.

Target, the nation's second largest discount retailer, aims to hire 1,000 to 1,200 people for two O'ahu stores scheduled to open in March.

Rob Parke, Target's district team leader, said yesterday that about 70 percent of those positions had been filled.

"The quality of the job pool is high," Parke said. "We're very pleased with what we are seeing so far."

The two stores opening in the spring will be in Kapolei and Salt Lake.

About 700 to 800 people showed up at the Hawai'i Convention Center yesterday, Parke said.

The center will be open for applicants today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Parke said applicants should arrive early because of the large number of people applying and the length of time it takes to process the applicants.

Large crowds have lined up before dawn the past few days and Target officials had told applicants that they could return yesterday or today when the job fair resumes.

On Thursday and Friday, crowds swarmed the center, some lining up as early as 11 p.m. the night before hoping to get one of the 1,200 promised positions.

The four-day job fair concludes today.
