Marine reported killed in Karmah, Iraq

A press release by the U.S. military out of Karmah, Iraq, said a Marine died Sunday as a result of wounds received when he was attacked by enemy forces.

The release today by Multinational Corps-Iraq said the name of the deceased Marine was being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

About 1,000 Marines with the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines out of Kane'ohe Bay are based in and around Karmah, which is near the western city of Fallujah.

Marine Corps Base Hawai'i officials could not be reached to determine whether the fallen Marine is based out of Hawai'i.
