'Lost' star Kim donates 500 toys to Toys for Tots

Advertiser Staff

A star on the TV series "Lost" has helped the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots Hawai'i program make up a shortfall in needed toys, but the Marines are hoping for one last bit of generosity on the final two days before Christmas.

Chuck Little, a Marine Forces Pacific spokesman, said the need has been met for every age group except for boys and girls ages 8 to 10, and boys and girls 11 and older.

"We're about 1,600 toys shy of being able to meet the need," Little said. "We're really concerned about making sure that everyone that requested donations gets something this year."

A collection point for the Marines managed by the Salvation Army will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, and from 8 a.m. until noon Wednesday on the Costco side of Dole Cannery, Little said.

"Lost" star Daniel Dae Kim and his wife donated 500 toys yesterday to the Toys for Tots campaign at Kahala Mall.

"To say that (contribution) is overwhelming is a gross understatement," Little said. "That will go a long way towards helping meet the remaining need this year."

Little said the Toys for Tots program has collected about 30,000 toys this year. For more information about the last two days for drop off, call 216-4851.
