'Iolani pushed Putnam City (Oklahoma City, Okla.) to triple overtime yesterday before falling, 82-74, leaving Hawai'i teams winless in nine games against elite Mainland competition in the 25th Annual 'Iolani Prep Classic.

The Classic concluded with last night's championship game with Oak Hill (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) — No. 5 in USA Today's Super 25 rankings — beating No. 7-ranked Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.), 74-62, in double overtime.

In the seventh-place game, Putnam City — No. 25 in ESPN Rise's preseason rankings — outscored 'Iolani, 13-5, in the third overtime. Brian Brown scored on a layup 15 seconds into the third OT, and the Pirates held the Raiders without a field goal until Kainoa Chu's 3-pointer cut it to 78-74 with 1:19 remaining.

Putnam City then made four free throws in the final 25 seconds to close out the victory.

"'Iolani plays with a lot of spirit and a lot of passion," said Putnam City coach A.D. Burtschi, in his 33rd year at the Pirates helm. "They kept us on our heels for most of the game, and getting past them was a difficult task."

The Raiders jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first period and were ahead until early in the third, when Kyle Hardrick's layup put Putnam City ahead, 38-37. 'Iolani took the lead back and went up, 45-41, after a short jumper by Trevor Tulonghari, but Tyler Earls responded with a rare four-point play when he was fouled on a made 3-point basket and sank the free throw to tie it at 45-45.

The game remained tight throughout regulation, and Chu swished a 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining to tie it at 60-60. The Raiders forced a turnover eight seconds later but a last-second shot was long, sending the game into overtime.

'Iolani took a 65-62 lead on Kela Marciel's two free throws with 20 seconds left in the first OT, but Earls drained a 3-pointer from the right wing with four seconds left to send it into a third overtime.

"We had so many opportunities to win, but it was one of those games where both teams had a lot of opportunities," Raiders coach Mark Mugiishi said. "We gotta learn to do something good and be consistent in finishing a play when we have those key opportunities. We gotta get over that hump and win some games."

Burtschi said 'Iolani would win a lot of games in Oklahoma.

"They would be a very good team in Oklahoma — at least Top 15 or Top 20 — if they played like that night in and night out," Burtschi said.

Hardrick scored 23 points to lead the Pirates, Dominique Raney added 20 points, Brown contributed 16 points and Earls chipped in with 11 points.

Chu led the Raiders with 23 points, Tulonghari added 15 points and Marciel contributed 10 points.

OAK HILL 74, MONTROSE 62, 2 OT: Momo Jones scored 40 points, including a 27-foot 3-pointer as time expired in the first overtime, as the Warriors outlasted the Mustangs for the championship in double overtime.

Jones made eight 3-pointers and scored 13 of his team's 15 points in one stretch as Oak Hill turned a 29-24 second period deficit into a 42-34 third-quarter lead. But Montrose Christian rallied back and eventually tied the game, sending into overtime at 49-49.

Mouph Yarou sank a free throw to put the Mustangs up, 56-53, with seven seconds remaining in the first overtime, but Jones — a 6-foot senior guard — sped upcourt and launched a rainbow from 27 feet out on the right wing that swished through the net as time expired.

The Warriors then outscored Montrose Christian 18-6 in the second overtime.

FAIRFAX 55, LEFLORE 51, OT: Solomon Hill scored 15 points and Renardo Sidney and Donte McFrazier each added 14 points as the Lions — who are from Los Angeles and ranked No. 9 by USA Today — held off the Rattlers, who are from Mobile, Ala., and ranked No. 13, for third place.

Demarcus Cousins led LeFlore with 19 points and Gerald Watkins added 15 points.

DEMATHA 73, WHITNEY YOUNG 66: Josh Selby scored 24 points and Quinn Cook added 13 points as the Stags — who are from Hyattsville, Md., and ranked No. 12 by ESPN Rise — held off the Dolphins from Chicago, ranked No. 24 by USA Today, for fifth place.

Mikael Hopkins contributed 11 points and Marcus Rouse chipped in with 10 points.

Ahmad Starks led Whitney Young with 16 points, Chris Colvin added 12 points and Samuel Thompson chipped in with 10 points.
