Union Church preschool fire now an arson investigation

Honolulu Fire Department fire investigators have classified the cause of the Oct . 22 fire that heavily damaged the preschool building and destroyed several classrooms and the teachers' lounge at Central Union Church Preschool as incendiary.

Results of the HFD investigation have been referred to Honolulu Police Department arson investigators.

Nobody was injured, but damages are estimated at $1 million.

The fire occurred on October 22 at approximately 4:10 a.m. It heavily damaged the preschool building and destroyed several classrooms, a teacher's lounge, a storage room, and an office.

HFD fire investigators have been working with HPD arson investigators since the day of the fire to determine the cause.
