WAILUKU
Market Street closures planned for repaving

Repaving work will prompt Maui County officials to close a section of Market Street in Wailuku for four Sundays, beginning this Sunday.

The closures will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on those days.

Vehicular traffic on Market Street between Mill and Kahawai Streets will be restricted. Only residents in that neighborhood will be allowed to enter and exit the area.

Residents who live in Happy Valley are advised that their access will be through Kahekili Highway via Waiehu Beach Road during the affected weekends; no through traffic will be permitted.

Contractors will be reconstructing pavement sections in the area as part of the Market Street improvement project. The county Department of Public Works said this part of the scheduled work has been changed to weekends rather than weekdays in order to help minimize disruptions to weekday traffic.

However, some work during the weekdays may become necessary, the county said.
