Fire gutted a home on Helemano Military Reservation on Christmas Eve, displacing a family, a fire department spokesman said.

Damage and loss to the home at 118 Koloko Court was estimated at $30,000 to the building and $6,000 to the family's belongings.

An unattended candle on the second floor started the fire, fire Capt. Earle Kealoha said.

No one was injured.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross met with the family yesterday to help them with shelter, clothing and food needs.
