Alex Gerke, who helped coach the offensive line and the running backs for the University of Hawaii this past season, will leave to take an assistant coaching position at Utah State.

Gerke coached one season with the Warriors.

A 1988 graduate of Utah, Gerke came to UH after two seasons as an offensive line coach at Weber State. Before that, he was head coach at Golden West College and had two stints at Utah, as a graduate assistant in 1998-99 and an offensive line coach in 2001-02.

UH head coach Greg McMackin said he will not fill Gerke's position until after the recruiting season in February.
