Homeless man accused of attacking police officer

A 51-year-old homeless man is accused of assaulting a police officer in Kailua Saturday after being confronted for trespassing on private property.

According to a police report the man struck the officer in the face, entered his patrol car and then got hold of the officer's handcuffs. The man also threatened the police officer, Honolulu police said.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m.

More officers arrived and the man was arrested on suspicion of assault on a law enforcement officer, terroristic threatening, trespassing and resisting arrest.

The officer suffered a swollen cheek and scrapes to his knee, police said.
