The University of Hawaii men's basketball team rebounded from a disappointing loss with a resounding victory tonight.

The Rainbow Warriors routed George Washington, 73-47, in a consolation game of the 45th Annual Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic.

A crowd of 3,219 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched Hawaii bounce back from its loss to Colorado State on Saturday to improve to 7-4. The Colonials dropped to 6-4.

Hawaii will play Pepperdine for the consolation championship on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Roderick Flemings led the 'Bows with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Petras Balocka added 14 points and four rebounds.

Hawaii used a new starting lineup, with point guard Hiram Thompson and center Paul Campbell making their first starts of the season.

They helped spark the 'Bows to a 9-4 lead to open the game.

UH kept the lead the rest of the half, and had a 31-18 lead at intermission. Thompson hit a running bank shot from about eight feet away just before the halftime buzzer.

Thompson finished with six points and three assists; Campbell had five points and four rebounds.

The 'Bows went on a 12-0 run early in the second half to increase the lead to 45-24 with 12:37 remaining. Hawaii led by as many as 28 points after that. The 'Bows shot 55.6 percent from the field in the second half to turn it into a rout.

The 'Bows went 24 for 33 on free throws, while the Colonials went 9 of 15.

Travis King led George Washington with 10 points.
