Marsh pit? Don't let it stay that way. Join the Windward Kaha Garden's Volunteer Day, sponsored by the Kailua Bay Advisory Council, Hui O Ko'olaupoko and 'Ahahui Malama I Ka Lokahi, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday when they meet at 750 Kaha St. to weed invasive plants, prune back vegetation and maintain native plant landscape adjacent to Kawai Nui Marsh. Don't forget to bring water, lunch and gardening tools; 381-7202.

SAVE THE PLANET

NOT TOO LATE FOR SOLAR POWER CREDIT

Good news for those rushing to get their HECO rebate in, or their solar power tax credit before the end of the year: Not only are those programs ongoing, like the Energy Star rebate for appliances, but Congress has renewed the tax credits for your photovoltaics. Check out the Web site (www.heco.com) for rebate forms and to download the new Power to Save booklet that helps you find how much energy you're using and suggests ways to cut back.

FINAL WORD

"Probably, a year from now, this will be the greenest neighborhood in the United States."
