MAUI COUNTY
Christmas tree recycling scheduled for 3 islands

"Maui Treecycling Day" will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Papa Avenue soccer field in Kahului, the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani and the Kihei Recycling Center on Welakahao Road.

Christmas trees also may be dropped off at the Kihei Recycling Center from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 10.

Ongoing treecycling will take place at EKO Compost at the Central Maui Landfill, the Olowalu Recycling Center, the Hana Landfill and Moloka'i's Naiwa Landfill. On Lana'i, trees may be recycled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 8 through 10 at the old base yard, just west of the HI-5 redemption center.

Trees should have all tinsel, ornaments, lights, wires and nails removed for recycling into compost, mulch, wood chips and other products.

Curbside pick-up of Christmas trees for $10 is available now through Saturday, with proceeds benefitting youth sports teams. Reservations should be made at least a day ahead by calling 250-9771.
