KEALIA – A 15-year-old Kapa'a girl was airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center Monday evening after being hit by a pickup truck in Kealia Monday evening.

She remained in critical condition today, Kaua'i County officials said.

The girl was crossing Kuhio Highway at the Mailihuna Road junction heading for the multi-use path at around 6:24 pm when she was struck by a northbound Toyota pickup truck.

The girl sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital via ambulance. She was later medevaced to The Queen's Medical Center for further treatment.

Traffic on Kuhio Highway was stopped in both directions for about 1 1/2 hours following the accident.

Police said that alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in this accident.
