CFB: AG's office to review Andre Smith situation

Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The state Attorney General's office is looking into alleged contact involving University of Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith and an agent.

The Outland Trophy winner's suspension from the Sugar Bowl reportedly stemmed from dealings with an agent by either Smith or a family member.

A spokesman for Attorney General Troy King told The Tuscaloosa News today that King is aware of the allegations and intends to begin an immediate review to decide whether to open a formal investigation.

Bence said the attorney general's office has prosecuted several sports agents.

Alabama law requires sports agents to register in the state and prohibits some contacts with athletes such as giving them money before a contract is signed.
