New reality show gives old teen idols 2nd shot at fame

By Gary Strauss
USA Today

Seven former teen idols will try to stretch their 15 minutes of fame when VH1's latest celeb-reality series, "Confessions of a Teen Idol," makes its debut Sunday.

The brainchild of "The Wonder Years" child star turned producer Jason Hervey and former teen heartthrob Scott Baio, "Confessions" features former stars such as Adrian Zmed ("Grease 2," "T.J. Hooker") and Christopher Atkins ("Blue Lagoon").

They're punked, forced to confront their pasts and even placed in squirmy group sessions with "fame" therapist Cooper Lawrence in an effort to rekindle stardom — and capture TV ratings — over eight episodes.

"It's one thing to examine fame. It's another to examine what it takes to get it back. And these guys are holding on for one more shot at the title," says Hervey, whose Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment has produced several series, including "Scott Baio Is 45 ... and Single" and "Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling."
