CHINATOWN
Event Friday honors mayor, city milestone

The city and various arts organizations are sponsoring "The Mayor's Inaugural Block Party" Friday at 7 p.m. on Pauahi Street, between Bethel Street and Nu'uanu Avenue.

The event is intended to combine a First Friday arts festival with a celebration after the inauguration ceremony of Mayor Mufi Hannemann.

Hannemann will be sworn in for his second term as Honolulu mayor at 5 p.m. Friday in the Hawai'i Theatre.

The celebration also falls on the 100th anniversary of the election of the City and County of Honolulu's first chief executive, Joseph Fern.

Organizers will place a stage on Pauahi Street, between the Hawai'i Theatre and the ARTS at Marks Garage, and bring in live entertainment. The Fern Elementary Choir, 'Iolani School's hula halau and Augie T will kick off the event at 7, followed by SoulZ and Fiji at 8.

The event is sponsored by the city, the Arts District Merchants Association and the Honolulu Culture and Arts District Association.
