DOWNTOWN
Former city manager to be water board engineer

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply has appointed Wayne M. Hashiro as the ninth manager and chief engineer of the Board of Water Supply.

Hashiro told Mayor Mufi Hannemann this month that he was stepping down as city managing director to return to his first love, engineering. He will be responsible for the direction and management of the agency.

Hashiro was a unanimous choice of the water board, said Randall Y.S. Chung, chairman of its board of directors.

"Wayne is a goal-driven and visionary leader who brings extensive engineering and management know-how from his experiences in both the public and private sectors, here at home and abroad," Chung said.
