Pedestrian-bus accident in Kalihi sends 2 to hospital

Police have shut down both east-bound, or Honolulu-bound, lanes of Dillingham Boulevard between Pu'uhale Road and Mokauea Street following a pedestrian accident involving a bus.

According to initial reports from the scene, a 73-year-old woman was struck by a city bus about 4:55 a.m. in front of the Blood Bank of Hawaii as she was walking across Dillingham Boulevard.

She is reported to be in critical condition.

A 65-year-old woman who was a passenger on the bus has also been taken to The Queen's Medical Center.

According to emergency communications from the scene, the passenger was injured when the bus slammed on its brakes and she was thrown from her seat.

Police vehicular homicide investigators have been called to the scene.
