Lingle sees support for proposal to buy Turtle Bay

Associated Press

HONOLULU — Gov. Linda Lingle says she's encouraged by discussion and support for her proposal for the state to purchase and protect Turtle Bay on O'ahu's North Shore.

Lingle proposed the purchase of 850 acres, including five miles of coastline and the Turtle Bay luxury resort and golf course.

The governor in her weekly radio address says the North Shore is renown around the world for its great surf and as a refuge from urban life.

She says its important to note that she doesn't want the state to go into the resort business. She says the hotel itself could be sold to help finance the purchase of surrounding land.
