Tadpole Studio, 1160 Smith St. in Chinatown, is working on an installation art project involving recycling of plastic bottles, caps, aluminum cans, glass bottles or any container that we use every day. Want to help out? Reuse/recycle your used containers and bring the cleaned caps/lids to Tadpole Studio today, First Friday. SHOWDOWN IN CHINATOWN COMPETITION IS FEB. 9

The next Showdown In Chinatown filmmaker's competition and screening is Feb. 9. Filmmakers who want to enter (it's free) can go to www.showdowninchinatown.com at 4 p.m. today to pre-register online. You'll have one week to write, shoot, and edit a four- to seven-minute short film — the topic is revealed online.

The main event, beginning at 8 p.m. on Feb. 9 at NextDoor, 43 N. Hotel St, features the Hawai'i premiere of "Lost" actor Harold Perrineau's music video, "Stay Strong." The video, directed by Daniel Dae Kim, was produced with the help of Showdown filmmakers like Zac Heileson, Robert Campbell, Gregory Doi, Cheryl Sakai and Torry Tukuafu.
