ANAHOLA
Funds freed up to build drainage improvements

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle has released $705,000 to construct drainage improvements on Kuhio Highway on Kaua'i near mile marker 18.3, between Anahola and Kilauea.

During heavy rain, ground water in this area seeps onto the roadway, creating large puddles that are a potential hazard for motorists. This project will construct underground drains along both shoulders of the road to drain the water away from this section of the highway.

"This is one of several projects the Department of Transportation has undertaken to correct drainage problems along state roadways to reduce the risk of accidents," said Lingle. "Kuhio Highway will be safer as a result of these improvements."

The total project cost is estimated at $805,000, which includes $100,000 previously released for design. Construction is scheduled to begin in July and be completed in August.
