POUHALA MARSH RESTORATION — The Hawai'i Nature Center needs volunteers to pull pickleweed and mangrove 8:30-11:30 a.m. tomorrow in the marsh, the largest remaining wetland at Pearl Harbor. Bring work gloves, water, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes; covered footwear and long pants required. Contact Pauline Kawamata at 955-0100, ext. 18.

KANE'OHE WETLAND PROJECT — Volunteers needed Feb. 9 to help the Sierra Club remove mangrove and other invasive species from wetlands on Marine Corps Base Hawai'i to create habitat for endangered waterbirds. Submit name and contact information by Feb. 7 to Annette Kaohelaulii at 235-5431.

NU'UANU WEEDING — Clear Medinilla magnifica, a relative of miconia, from Nu'uanu, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Feb. 9, with the O'ahu Invasive Species Committee and Sierra Club,. Involves 45-minute hike and off-trail weeding in steep terrain. Meet at Church of the Crossroads parking lot. Bring water, snacks, lunch, rain gear, sunscreen, bug repellent and sturdy walking shoes. KAWAI NUI QUICKIE — Windward Ahupua'a Alliance will hold a Quick-n-Dirty Cleanup of Kawai Nui waterway and Hamakua Marsh, 12:30-2 p.m. Feb. 17, with a pau hana party to follow. Pre-registration not required. Call Jim or Shannon Wood at 223-4481 or 247-6366, ext. 1.

CRATER OVERNIGHTER — The Friends of Haleakala National Park will do cabin maintenance, invasive-species removal or other work during a Feb. 16-18 service trip to Kapalaoa Cabin. MAKIKI WAI HELPERS — The O'ahu Na Ala Hele Trails and Access program and the Hawai'i Nature Center need volunteers 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 23 to weed, pick up branches, plant, water and fertilize native plants as part of the Makiki WAI (Watershed Awareness Initiative) forest restoration project. Bring long pants, long-sleeved shirt, shoes or boots, gloves, insect repellent, water and lunch. Meet at the Makiki Forestry Baseyard; families welcome. Call Aaron Lowe at 973-9782.

THURSDAY WORKDAYS — Join the Nature Conservancy 8 a.m.4 p.m. Thursdays at the Honouliuli Preserve in Kunia for volunteer work trips requiring hiking and moderately strenuous activity removing invasive species, clearing trails, and monitoring and repairing fences. WEED & POT CLUB — Maui Nui Botanical Garden's Weed & Pot Club meets 8:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at 150 Kanaloa Ave. in Kahului to weed, rake, trim or transplant nursery plants, and do other beautification and maintenance work. Tools, gloves and drinking water provided; bring sunscreen, wear shoes.
