Superferry still in port for repairs

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii Superferry has canceled service for a sixth consecutive day, as company officials announced last night that the ferry will remain dockside today while rudder repairs continue.

Superferry earlier said it would resume service between Maui and O'ahu today, but an unexpected delay in the completion of repair work will keep the Alakai in port. Repair work was expected to be completed yesterday.

Bad weather forced the Alakai to remain dockside from Sunday through Wednesday this week. During that period, Hawaii Superferry performed routine maintenance inspections, during which the need for repair work related to the vessel's auxiliary rudders was identified.

The Coast Guard has been inspecting the Superferry to make sure it is clear to sail.

Hawaii Superferry will notify passengers today regarding when service will resume. People may visit www.HawaiiSuperferry.com for the latest information.
