Rain on the horizon through the weekend

Moderate to fresh trade winds will continue across the state through the weekend fueled by a strong high pressure area north of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

The wet trade wind weather is expected to persist through Sunday, forecasters said.

Some of the showers may result in locally heavy rainfall over portions of the windward side of the Big Island and on Maui today.

Here's a more detailed forecast for the next few days:

Rest of today: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Breezy. Highs around 78. East winds 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Breezy. Lows 62 to 71. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Sunday: Partly sunny with scattered showers. Breezy. Highs around 79. East winds 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Sunday night: .Mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows 62 to 71. East winds 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.
