Soccer champs to be honored

State soccer champions for Division I and II boys and girls will be honored during the Pan-Pacific Soccer Championships at Aloha Stadium.

The PPC, an international tournament that features superstar David Beckham and Hawai'i's Brian Ching, will be held Feb. 20 and 23.

The Los Angeles Galaxy and Houston Dynamo of Major League Soccer, Gamba Osaka of Japan and a team from Australia will compete.

The tournament opens Feb. 20 with the Galaxy playing Gamba Osaka at 6 p.m., followed by the Dynamo versus a Hyundai A-League representative at 8:30 p.m.

Matches Feb. 23 also are at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The Hawai'i High School Athletic Association champions will be honored during the third-place and final matches Feb. 23.

"We are proud to be able to highlight the great achievements of these fine student-athletes on a global stage," Will Wilson, Soccer United Marketing Executive Vice President, said in a press release. "This partnership will allow the Hawaii youth to share the spotlight with international icons and ensure that the impact of the Pan-Pacific Championship extends into the local community."

Fans may purchase individual tickets for the Pan-Pacific Championship online at www.ticketmaster.com or through all Ticketmaster retail locations. Tickets can also be purchased at the Aloha Stadium Box Office (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
