Associated Press

MIKI, Japan — Akiko Morigami and Aiko Nakamura both won their reverse singles matches Sunday as Japan beat Croatia 4-1 in a Fed Cup World Group II tie.

Morigami defeated Jelena Kostanic Tosic 6-1, 6-2 in the first match Sunday and Nakamura wrapped up a playoff berth for Japan with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win over Nika Ozegovic.

Rika Fujiwara and Ayumi Morita beat Petra Martic and Ana Vrljic 6-2, 6-3 in the doubles match.

Japan and Croatia split the first two singles matches on Saturday.

Japan and other World Group II winners will meet the losers from current World Group ties in playoffs for membership of the World Group next year.

The two nations were meeting in a Fed Cup tie for the first time in 10 years. In 1998, Iva Majoli led Croatia to a 4-1 win.
