Baseball: Tejada becomes Carribean all-time HR leader

SANTIAGO, Dominican Republic — Miguel Tejada homered twice and became the all-time home run leader in the Caribbean Series, leading the Dominican Republic's Cibao Eagles to a 13-6 drubbing of Mexico's Obregon Yaquis yesterday.

The Houston Astros shortstop hit solo homers in the second and seventh innings.

Tejada has 13 home runs in 11 Caribbean Series, surpassing the 11 homers hit by Venezuelan Antonio Armas.

Los Angeles Dodgers' infielder Rafael Furcal went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the Eagles victory.

Reliever Denny Bautista (1-0) allowed two hits in 1 2-3 innings with one strikeout. Starter Alberto Castillo (0-1) got just two outs and allowed five runs for the loss.

Earlier, Washington Nationals second baseman Ronnie Belliard homered and drove in four runs to lead the Dominican Republic's Licey Tigers to a 6-4 victory over Venezuela's Aragua Tigers.

Belliard homered in the third off Jose Santiago and had a two-run double in the fourth. New York Mets prospect Anderson Hernandez and Juan Francisco also drove in runs for Licey.

Colorado Rockies reliever Jose Capellan (1-0) allowed one run, four hits and struck out three in five innings for the Tigers. Santiago (0-1) allowed eight hits and five runs in five innings.

The Eagles will play Venezuela's Tigers today, and Licey will face Mexico's Yaquis.
