Skiing: Emily Brydon wins super-G; Lindsey Vonn 4th

Associated Press

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland — Emily Brydon of Canada won a super-G today for her first World Cup victory.

Brydon went down the Corviglia course in 1 minute, 17.39 seconds to edge Elisabeth Goergl of Austria by 0.25 seconds.Goergl's teammate Renate Goetschl was third, 0.29 behind Brydon.

Lindsey Vonn of the United States was fourth, missing the podium by 0.01.

"This is like the fifth time that I'm one hundredth off the podium and it's just a little bit disappointing," the American said. "The fourth place is a really hard place to be, especially when it's only one hundredth."

The 27-year-old Brydon was second in the super-G on the same course in December and had four third-place finishes in the last seven years.

"It's like a dream I've had for years," Brydon said. "I just let the skies go and I tried to create as much speed as possible."

Goergl got her sixth podium finish of the World Cup season, just ahead of Goetschl.
